Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year – Greenery
It’s official, rose quartz and serenity blue are so last year. Pantone announced its 2017 Color of the Year, and everything is coming up Greenery! In a statement, Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said that “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape,” adding that it satisfies a new desire to reconnect with nature. The shade is a floral designers dream…so abundant in nature! Pantone characterizes it as “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.” Taking inspiration from this cue, I’m already daydreaming of Spring & 2017 designs!
Greenery provides so many wonderful choices for floral designers. Greens like Italian Ruscus, seeded Eucalyptus, Smilax, moss and succulents are lovely options. There are many green flowers too, like Super green Roses, or green hanging Amaranthuis look amazing in any arrangement. Green ball Dianthus is so unexpected and fun. Misty Green Queen Ann’s lace is a wonderful wedding flower! Even artichokes offer wonderful color and texture!
This cheerful color is already working. Revitalize, refresh, regenerate…my head is full of new designs for 2017!
Married & Bright – Holiday Styled Photo Shoot
Here in sunny Southern California, the wedding season creeps into the shoulder seasons, as we enjoy moderate temperatures and pleasant weather most of the year. With this in mind, we set out to create a styled photo shoot that embodies the holiday season, California-style. The bouquet incorporated cedar greens, seeded eucalyptus, red garden roses and Skimmer Japonica berries that added a deep red and layer of texture. The table utilized those elements, and the additional seasonal touches of pine cones, curly willow topped with snow, and cinnamon sticks. The sights & smell of the holidays! This photoshoot was a joy to us all…cozy and warm, but drenched in So Cal sunlight. I’m thrilled with the results.

Back to Nature – The Wedding of Emily & Kyle
There are so many phenomenal wedding trends that have gripped both brides and designers – some simple and chic, some quite grandiose. I’ve had a wonderfully busy wedding season in 2016, but this seriously might be my favorite wedding of the year! The Bride, Emily, envisioned an earthy and organic feel to her Fall wedding. We started with a woodsy and neutral color palette drawn from natural elements, and then layered in pops of deep reds. The delicate lace of her wedding dress paired perfectly with an elegant bridal headpiece of seeded Eucalyptus with hints of Baby’s Breath. For the bouquets, we aimed for a cascade of greens (Lemon Leaf, Agonis, seeded Eucalyptus, Pepper Tree and Ferns) with eye-catching burgundy Dahlia’s, red hanging Amaranths, and light blue Delphinium. The reception matched the botanical feel. Round tables were designed around large wood slabs, embellished with lanterns and the garland. I simply adored the intimate, relaxed, and organic feel we created for Emily & Kyle’s big day. Their décor was a delightfully eclectic assortment of pretty, vintage and bohemian items that created just the ambience they envisioned. Photographer Janet Wheeland was there to capture each beautiful moment, bringing us these stunning images.

Garden Tea Wedding - Arabella Laguna, Laguna Beach, CA
This shoot has been popping up everywhere this Summer! From the BLOVED Blog to Wedding Chicks, this boho-chic garden wedding has provided boatloads of inspiration for 2016 Summer Brides-to-be. It’s not hard to see why; every photo is practically dripping with gorgeous details. We started with a lovely pastel palette, Pantone’s Colors of the Year for 2016: Serenity Blue & Rose Quartz. Next, we added all of the traditional elements of an elegant tea party. Gorgeous table settings, lushly appointed chairs and lounges, and of course…flowers! You can’t really have too many, right?
I included layers of white hydrangea, blush and white spray roses, light blue delphinium, blush ranunculus and those amazing white anenomes with the dark eye that stands out in any arrangement. I adored the big headed pink rose with green ruffled edges, white tulips and Italian Ruscus greens…it was just the right mix of traditional elegance and playful whimsy.
What a joy to collaborate with this talented creative team! They represent the very top of their industry here in South Orange County. Their work speaks for itself. I still want to dive right in to these photos!! Enjoy.

Whenever business takes me to Casa Romantica, I call it a good day. Perched on the bluff overlooking the Pacific and the lovely San Clemente pier, Casa Romantica is steeped in history and charm. I am honored to be among the preferred vendors at this venue. Their 2016 Bridal Show was a great chance to showcase some new designs. I was tasked with designing tablescapes for the gorgeous courtyard. With the help of Signature Party Rentals, I was thrilled with the results…unique and interesting, yet simple and chic. I was also excited to share my newest creations: Botanical Jewelry! Everyone loved trying on the floral rings and cuffs! This is sure to be a favorite for 2016! A big Thank You to Janet from Wheeland Photography for these lovely photos!

Casa Romantica Styled Photo Shoot – San Clemente, CA
Inspiration is everywhere, and in this case, it all began with these beautiful vintage chairs. Cori, from Events by Cori, had discovered them at a local consignment boutique and thought they would be perfect for a sweetheart table! The rich shades of gold, peach and pink became the palette for this styled photo shoot at the gorgeous Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens.
Tasked with designing the floral arrangements for the bluff-top ceremony site, the courtyard reception and the lush bridal bouquets, my creative juices were instantly flowing with excitement. Right away, I thought of one of my favorites: the Free Spirt rose. It’s beautiful bicolor orange and yellow highlighted with deep pink edges opening into lacy petals are the perfect compliment to peachy pink dahlias. For a delicate feel, I added spray roses in peach, pink and white.
Layers of texture and contrast were achieved white dahlias, white lizianthus, white stock, pink calla lilys, red hanging amaranthus which has a slight pink tone, highlighting the pinks in the Free Spirit roses and dahlias. Italian ruscus is so romantic, so I used that too…what a wonderful opportunity to get inspired with some of my personal favorites.
The table design of the courtyard reception was elegant and lush. I loved the sand dollar table numbers by Invitation Design Studio! They perfectly echoed the ocean-side feel. I wanted to include lots of foliage for texture, and couldn’t wait to use some interesting choices like the fuzzy Gerbera daisies and mini phalaenopsis orchids for the gorgeous tablescapes!
This creative team was a joy to work with…what an amazing collection of wedding professionals.
